This thriller revolves around Cornelia Van Gorder, a maiden lady of sixty, who rents a summer home where mysterious things happen. The home belongs to a banker who has mysteriously died and a large sum of money is missing from the dead manís bank. The suspects are many Ė the bank cashier who has not shown up for work since the money disappeared; a detective engaged by Miss Van Gorder to clear up the mystery; a doctor friend and confederate of the dead banker; and The Bat, a notorious thief who has long eluded the police. This quartet of high-school chums' dreams of recording an album ended in death in a collision with a bus filled with Catholic schoolgirls on their way to see the Beatles' American debut on The Ed Sullivan Show. The revue begins with the Plaids returning from the afterlife for one final chance at musical glory.
